Gufram and Paul Smith renewed their collaboration to present the SUNRISE CACTUS®, a bold new interpretation of the iconic piece originally designed by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello in 1972.
The Gufram x Paul Smith SUNRISE CACTUS® – which celebrated the reopening of the newly renovated iconic Paul Smith store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles – stands as a symbol of resilience, thriving in harsh conditions and representing a willingness to grow and evolve. It represents a metaphorical new sunrise for Paul Smith in Los Angeles and a renovated presence of Gufram in the United States. A limited edition of 600 Guframini that preserves the energetic and optimistic colour palette of the original size, typical of daybreak. As the sun rises at the horizon, inspiring a sense of joy and energy, the powerful hues of the Guframini SUNRISE CACTUS® gradually change from the soft yellow shade at its base reaching into the purple tone of a summer’s sky at the top, blending through light tones of orange and pink.
A dedicated wooden box compones the packaging with a custom made cardboard backdrop that recalls the colour palette of the Guframini SUNRISE CACTUS®, and a plexiglass panel that features information about the limited edition and the collaboration with Paul Smith. In addition, the box will host the custom card with the handwritten edition number and the logos of the collaboration.
Just like the real-size SUNRISE CACTUS®, the new miniature is finished by hand, becoming a unique piece, an icon of Radical Contemporary Design in 1:8 scale.
